چکیده

Introduction Chest ultrasound (CU) has been suggested as an alternative to CXR to detect the majority of pulmonary abnormalities and misplacements of central venous lines. A good diagnostic accuracy has been reported for CU in intensive care units and postoperative setting, whereas chest auscultation (CA) shows a poorer diagnostic accuracy ([1], [2]) than CXR. The use of CA, CU and CXR as guides for treatment has been seldom reported ([3]).

Comparison of the prevalence of pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade after cardiac surgery with and without chest tube suction in patients referred to Chamran hospital, Isfahan

Background: Pericardial effusion is one of the most important complications of cardiac surgeries. Administration of a low-power suction to the mediastinal or pleural chest tube of patients helps better and constant drainage of pericardial or pleural secretions after surgeries. This technique might change the secretion and discharges of patients and might change the outcomes of surgeries. Metho...

A new system for assessing atelectasis on chest x-ray after sternotomy for cardiac surgery

Background: Pulmonary atelectasis is common following sternotomy for cardiac surgery. The degree of atelectasis present on chest x-ray has been used to assess efficacy of interventions designed to reduce atelectasis, however radiological atelectasis scoring systems used may exaggerate the clinical effect of atelectasis in these patients. We have produced an alternative scoring system that seeks...

However, this therapeutic method has various complications during and after surgical operation. The most frequent complication after coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) is the postoperative bleeding which is considered as a major problem. Objective: This study aims to ...

Focused ultrasound of the pleural cavities and the pericardium by nurses after cardiac surgery

OBJECTIVES We aimed to study the feasibility and reliability of focused ultrasound (US) examinations to quantify pericardial (PE)- and pleural effusion (PLE) by a pocket-size imaging device (PSID) performed by nurses in patients early after cardiac surgery. DESIGN After a 3-month training period, with cardiologists as supervisors, two nurses examined 59 patients (20 women) with US using a PSI...

Efficacy of Increasing Focus to Film Distance (FFD) for Patient’s Dose and Image Quality in Pediatric Chest Radiography

Background: Increasing the x-ray focus to film distance (FFD) has been advocated as an effective method to reduce the patients’ radiation dose. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of this technique in patients' dose and image quality in pediatric chest x-ray.Material and methods: Sixty pediatric patients were x-ray imaged at FFDs of 100 and 130 cm. Dose measurements were perfo...
